The Ramblers' Association

PLEASE NOTE THAT WITH EFFECT FROM MARCH, OUR WEBSITE WILL BE CHANGING AND WALKS WILL BE ON WALKS FINDER. FULL DETAILS WILL FOLLOW.

Walks Programme

Our walks are not graded, but an indication of the nature of the walk can be found under ‘Description’. For further details about the individual walks, please contact the leader, who will enlarge upon the type of walk, likely pace (the Leader sets the pace, please do not force a faster pace), and meeting arrangements.

You do not have to be a member of the Ramblers Association to come along to our walks; but it is Ramblers Association policy that you will be expected to join after three 'trial' walks, and/or if you intend to walk with us frequently. Please also be aware that the Ramblers' Insurance policy only covers guest walkers for three walks.

Please take plenty to drink, and a packed lunch – unless otherwise stated all walks will have a picnic lunch stop; there will be stops for drinks as required.

Information for Walk Leaders

There is a lot of useful information for walk leaders on the Ramblers website, in the Volunteer section. For convenience links to two of the documents can be found here: First Aid Tips and the Walk Leader Checklist. In order to comply with conditions of the Ramblers Civil Insurance policy, walks should be recce'ed beforehand.

As Ramblers' walk leaders, we have a certain responsibility to those who join us on our walks, and are therefore advised to carry OS Explorer maps at all times. The Group holds a small library of these maps, which Walk Leaders can borrow. Please contact Sheila if you would lo make use of one of these. We currently hold Explorer numbers: 117, 118, 128, 129 and OL15. All we ask is that you return it as soon as possible after your walk, or, should the map become damaged or lost whilst in your possession, that it is replaced with a new one.

Dogs on Walks

We have been advised by Ramblers Central Office that if we put ‘Sorry no dogs’ in our walk programme, we are in breach of the  Disability Equality Act 2010, because we would in effect be discriminating against potential walkers who are accompanied by Assistance Dogs. In future therefore it has been agreed that, for those who normally exclude dogs for whatever reason, we put “RAD ONLY”, where RAD means Registered Assistance Dogs.  Those members wishing to bring their Assistance Dog on a walk, PLEASE CONTACT THE LEADER at least seven days in advance of the walk to discuss safety issues, and whether adjustments to the route are possible, to avoid potential hazards etc.  This does not affect those walks which permit dogs (on leads at all times).

To submit a walk, download a printable form here.

Disclaimer: All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them and rambling is no exception. In spite of the safety of members always being of paramount concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important therefore that when entering into the activity, each member appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards associated with the activity and take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise the potential for an accident to arise.

Any incident, accident or injury that occurs on any of our walks must be reported to Graham on 01935 817531
